I was recently asked how i create my value
studies. Click through for high rez. Here’s lesson in how i do em.1. Scan your tracing paper
sketch into photoshop. Punch your values using Levels.2. Then isolate
the contour of your value planes using the pen tool. The pen tool can be a pain
at first but once you get the hang of it, it gives you maximum amount of control
in the shortest bit of time. Another great thing about the pen tool is that you
can save your paths if you need to go back and make changes.3. Convert
your path to a selection and fill. Each plane on it’s own layer.4. Once
you’ve filled all your values you can start fine tuning the planes using levels.
I find just working with the “Output Levels” bar works best.5. I also
duplicate some layers and paint ever them with highlights and slight shading.
Nothing too much.6. Punch up the final image with some levels and
painting and done!
