Anonymous asked: There is this white pencil I see both you and Donato using at the beginnings of your painting process, which seems to be okay to use with oils. What is it? Is it an oil pastel pencil? White charcoal perhaps?
It’s neither.
I can’t speak for Donato but I use a white
Faber-Castell Pitt Pastel pencil. I prefer white pastel because I can get a
strong opaque white that easily erases but won’t leave a waxy surface. If you
have a soft hand you can achieve tonal variations without overwhelming your
drawing with highlights.
Since
I use a process that involves painting on a print out and not on my original
drawing, it doesn’t matter how the pastel works with the oil…because i
don’t paint on it :-D
